Best Intermodal Transport Practice Prizes Awarded
During the Asia-Europe Transport Development Forum and the first ASEM Transport Ministers' Meeting, which took place in Vilnius, the winners of the Intermodal Awards for best transport practices were congratulated.
The prizes of the 9th Annual European Intermodal Awards for best transport practices went to Lietuvos geležinkeliai (JSC Lithuanian Railways) and Procter and Gamble. The winners were awarded with specially designed bronze statuettes. The award ceremony took place during a solemn dinner of the Asia-Europe Transport Development Forum and the ASEM Transport Ministers' Meeting (ASEM) on 19 October in Vilnius.
The Lithuanian Railways' combined transport train Viking operating in cooperation with Belarusian and Ukrainian railways, is the first successful long-term railway project implemented in the market. It joins the countries of the European Union with the CIS countries from the Baltic to the Black seas. The containers cross the abovementioned distance of 1700 km in 52 hours. Viking has been evaluated as the best example of TRACECA, Crete and East-West transport corridor and is also valued for fast border crossing and customs procedures.
The awards initiated and organised annually by the European Intermodal Association are aimed at encouraging definite and innovative intermodal transport solutions and draw attention to the examples of best practices in the field of intermodal transport and logistics. The assessment commission, when selecting the winners, took into consideration the following main criteria: innovativeness, intermodality and focus on the market.
